EPS plot exported from Maple may have "+/-" instead of a "-" when viewed.
Plots display incorrectly when viewed in Maple. Maple uses Octal code 261 for the minus sign, a "-" sign in the Adobe Standard but a "+/-" sign in the ISO Latin 1 encoding. EPS viewers (i.e. Ghostview) may use ISO Latin 1. You can, if you wish, edit the .eps file with a standard text editor (i.e.....

Why does Maple return a complex root when asked to simplify (-8)^(1/3)? Why does plotting the cube root function only show part of the graph?
null When simplifying (-8)^(1/3), Maple is looking for a complex number, z, such that z^3=-8. There are three cube roots of -8. By default, Maple returns only the principal one which is complex. Therefore, on the cube root graph, the portion where x....
