This article discusses the findings of the Physical Modelling Consortium (PMC) - founded by Toyota and the modelling software company Maplesoft to raise awareness and increase standards of practice among engineers - in its quest for better physical modelling tools. It looks at the limitations of signal-flow systems, namely their inability to map the physical topology of real systems, compared to object-orientated modelling tools like MapleSim that use physical system components and connectors to define the model, then automatically generate the system equations. |
